Bamboozled is a 2D Puzzle Platformer where you play as a Panda on a quest to get back their bamboo that has been stolen by other animals. The game centers around having to defeat enemies by using the environment.
Bamboozled is a game that I designed and created using Clickteam Fusion 2.5. I created a demo that’s available for download that has 17 levels that were intended to be the first levels in the full game.
The main idea of Bamboozled was to create a platformer where you have to use your surroundings and the environment to defeat enemies, overcome obstacles and reach the goal of each level. This made it a lot of fun and challenging to make smart levels and encounters as each level becomes a puzzle on how to reach the goal.
An example of early game puzzles.
Most of the time I spent on Bamboozled was with coding the gameplay in the Clickteam Fusion 2.5 Event Editor. There you can create conditions to your events in a very easy manner. I also used the event editor to create my own level editor. When the level editor was done, making the levels became a lot easier as I could customize it as I pleased.
The level editor I created for Bamboozled.
The biggest challenge I had on the project must’ve been making the movement of the character feel fluent. The game was always intended to be a title for Android but after playtests it became apparent that it was a bit hard for me to get fluent platforming controls for a phone game as the controls also need to take up a chunk of the screen. I decided to mainly make Bamboozled for the PC instead with a small possibility to export it to Android later down the line. I also liked the idea of having my level editor in the released product for PC as well so people could make their own levels to the game if it were to ever be released.
I hope that you enjoyed learning about Bamboozled. Feel free to download the game and test it out for yourself if you're interested and own a PC!
